Vote by November 3rd!
Useful tips on voting to make sure your vote gets counted!
Rank Ross #1 on your ballot
Berkeley City Council elections use ranked-choice voting, which means you fill in the circle corresponding to rank #1 for your favorite candidate, rank #2 for your second favorite candidate, and so on. Remember to fill in rank #1 for Ross and only Ross! If you pick more than one candidate per rank, your vote won't get counted.
Sign the envelope and return your ballot at a ballot drop box, by mail, or in person.
Before returning your ballot, remember to sign the envelope the same way that you signed when you registered to vote.
Voting at a Ballot Drop Box (recommended)
Once you've completed your ballot, sealed it in the return envelope, and signed it, you can drop it off in any ballot drop box in California. Ballot drop boxes are typically outdoors and open 24/7 up until 8 pm on Election Day, November 3rd, which is the deadline to vote. The county provides an online tool to look up ballot drop boxes near you.
Voting by Mail (ideally by October 27th)
You can also send your ballot in the mail via the U.S. Postal Service. The ballot envelope had postage prepaid, so you don't need to add your own stamp. Ballots must be postmarked on or before election day and received no more than 7 days after election day.
If you choose to return your ballot through the mail, we recommend mailing your ballot at least one week before the deadline — by October 27th — to ensure it's postmarked and received on time. Keep in mind that USPS might not postmark your mail on the day it's dropped off. You can also request a manual postmark at the counter of a USPS office. Find a USPS location near you.
Voting in Person (including lost ballots and same-day registration)
Another option to drop off your ballot is at an in-person voting center. In addition, if you can’t find your ballot, they can give you a new ballot to fill out in person. If you aren't registered to vote or need to update your voter registration, in-person voting centers are also where you can go for that. You can register to vote and cast a ballot on the same day (they'll just need to verify your registration before your vote will be counted). You can look up voting centers and their hours here.
